Our class will be researching and learning about where their families originated. Each student needs to choose a country from which their ancestors came from. Students need to have their country name by tomorrow. The research and paragraph are due on December 4th. Students will need to do a majority of their research outside of school. This will be a great opportunity to learn about your family's heritage and world geography. I will attach to this post the packet that should have made its way home tonight. It will also be located on the classroom information page. What a beautiful weekend we have had here in Tonganoxie!! I have been busy preparing for the week ahead. I have decided that with the extra testing this week that we will not have a spelling test on Friday. Our next spelling unit will be after Thanksgiving break.
This week the class will be taking the ACT Aspire testing. This is a nationally normed test that will measure and compare our third graders to other third graders across the country. Students will be taking tests in math, reading, science, writing and english. We will test everyday this week except Wednesday, and Monday of next week. Our class will test from 9-10 each morning. Please make sure your child has a good breakfast and a restful night sleep. The music program will also be this week. Our scheduled time to perform will be at 7:30 Thursday evening. Our classroom doors will open at 7:15 for students to come down and prepare for the performance. Please keep all coats and personal items upstairs with families as we will not be returning to our classroom after the performance. In math this week we will continue to work on multiplication and division strategies for the numbers 5 and 10. Reading comprehension will focus on sequencing non-fiction texts and comparing texts. We will also be reviewing the oy/oi phonics patterns and learning about plural nouns changing y to i and adding -ies as well as irregular spellings. We have a busy week ahead of us. As always, if you have any concerns or questions please feel free to send a note, or drop me an email. I will get back with you as soon as possible. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Missy Miller Good Morning Families! Now that the craziness of Halloween has past we can look ahead to November. We have quite a few activities and special events coming up in the next couple of weeks.
ACT Aspire Testing: The third grade will be participating in the ACT Aspire standardized testing on November 10th and the week of November 14th. This test assesses all subject areas and compares the Tonganoxie third graders to other third graders in the nation. It is a computerized test so all students will need their earbuds for the testing dates. Our class will test in the afternoon from 1:45-3;00. Please try to schedule appointments around these times. Third Grade Music Program: November 17th is the 3rd grade music program. Our class will be performing at 7:30. The classroom will be open at 7:15 for students to arrive and prepare for the performance. Students will need to leave coats and personal items with their families as we will not return to the classroom after the program. No School: There will not be classes held on Friday, November 11th. Reading & Language: In reading we will continue to work on summarizing texts and identifying the main idea with supporting details. We will work on eliminating redundant statements in our writing and having a new idea with each detail. Math: We will test on chapter 5 this week and will start to work on memorizing the math facts, both multiplication and division. Good old fashion practice outside of school is one of the best ways to memorize the facts. I encourage all families to work with their child. When my kiddos were little we would make it a game while we were driving in the car. It was a great way to practice and I had a captive audience! Social Studies: This week we will take what we have learned about becoming the President of the United States and write about why each student would make a great President. It should be fun to see the platforms that the kids have for themselves. We will then continue to learn about the legislative and judicial branches of the government. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, be safe! Mrs. Miller |
