We are quickly approaching the end of the 2nd quarter and will have several exciting projects and events in the next several weeks. The class will kick off this week with a research project about their family's heritage. They will research a country from which their ancestors originated. This project will be tied into our geography unit in social studies. We will do a little research at school, but most of the research will need to be completed at home using the internet. The library also has free internet service for all patrons if anyone does not have access at home. Students will learn about statistical facts, country traditions, food, and dress. The packet will be coming home early in the week, as soon as it returns from the printer.
The last three weeks of this quarter we will hit multiplication and division facts hard. We will work through several chapters which practice facts and teach multiplication properties. The best thing you can do at home is help your child memorize their multiplication facts. They are expected to have all facts memorized and be fluent with those facts by the end of the year. You can make or pick up a set of flashcards, practice facts to and from school, ball games, or the grocery store. Learning facts takes time and practice, 10 minutes daily will help accomplish this goal.
In reading we will continue to work on non-fiction text features and understanding non-fiction texts. We will be reading about Christmas traditions in different countries.
We have a lot to cover in the next few weeks and I look forward to watching you kids learn and grow. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!
