Our recess time happened to fall right in the middle of our time spent with our grandparents, so we took them outside and spent some time playing. Upon returning to the classroom we had a marshmallow challenge. Each group of four had to construct the tallest free standing tower out of a large marshmallow, 10 spaghetti noodles, and about a yard of masking tape. The marshmallow had to be at top. I loved watching the kids work with their grandparents and each other to come up with their tower. They had to use critical thinking and problem solving to be successful. After the grandparents left, the class discussed what worked and what they could have changed to make the tower more stable or successful.
