It was a crazy week, I finished up our reading benchmark testing which gives me an opportunity to listen to each student individually and see where they are reading. Benchmarking also gives me great in-site on what I can teach to help students become better readers. We also started learning about our first big standard, which focuses on students being able to answer and ask appropriate questions about a fiction or non-fiction text. This week we learned that there are four different types of questions. Right there questions are answered explicitly in the text. Students become detectives with think and search questions, they have to search for evidence in text to answer the question. The last two types of questions rely on the students experiences and relating those experiences to the text they are reading.
Third grade started our Math WIN (What I Need) rotations this week. We took benchmark results from the beginning of the year and have placed students with other students with the same needs. Four days a week students travel to other 3rd grade teachers to get just what they need in math. Some will be enriched, some will have skills retaught, others will be going back and working on skills they missed in previous years. I look forward to seeing growth in all students. We will beginning our Reading WIN in a couple of weeks now that benchmark testing is done.
This upcoming week we will be traveling downtown for the homecoming parade on Monday, and again on Thursday for our first field trip. Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes, and appropriate clothing for each day.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! I look forward to seeing your kiddos on Monday :)!!
