In math we finished up three weeks learning about area and perimeter. This is a hard concept for the kiddos and we will continue to review this concept in the next WIN Math rotation. Students who scored under 80% on their test will have a chance to retake the test after the WIN rotation has finished. We will be kicking of a unit in our core math time on fractions. Students will be learning to identify fractions, find equivalent fractions and compare fractions. They will be learning using manipulatives, but I will also be introducing how to find common denominators as well.
I am really seeing a huge divide between those kiddos who have a good grasp of their basic facts; addition, subtraction and multiplication. Area and perimeter, and fractions heavily rely on being able to solve multiple basic fact problems. Students can work on those basic facts through many of the websites I have posted in our links page. I am also in the process of putting together fact games that will eventually be coming home for kids to play with family members.
I have a few housekeeping items that I need to address with the parents for the upcoming weeks.
PTC Carnival Basket: Our theme is family game night. Please bring in items by the 20th of February to help fill our basket.
PTC Meeting: Monday night at 7
Conferences: Parent teacher conferences are February 3rd and 4th. Notes went home yesterday with your chosen time. If you need a different time, please contact the office for available time slots. If you transferred in after conferences, you will need to sign up for a conference time. Tammy Bennett will be happy to help you with available times.
