Thank you to all the parents who attended parent teacher conferences! I enjoyed visiting, sharing how your children are growing, and looking at options to help them succeed no matter their individual strengths. It truly takes a team effort between home and school for our kids.
This week will be busy with a new chapter in math, and working on our animal research project. Research information and your child's "rough draft" flipbook are due next Monday. We will spend some time this week with multiple sources, reading and gathering information for our flipbooks as well as the written report that we will start toward the end of the week. I have attached several links for kid friendly research sites for the animal research. Scroll to the bottom of the student links page.
In math we will start a unit on measurement, learning about capacity, length, and time. Elapsed time always seems to stump third graders. One way I like to relate time to the students is having them keep track of their daily activities, then we discuss how much time it took them to complete normal routine activities.
Upcoming Events....
Spring Pictures & Class Pictures: Tuesday, February 16th
Animal Research Due: February 22nd
PTC Carnival: February 27th at TES
State Assessment: Multidisciplinary Test: February 29th & March 1st
This test is our first for our State Testing this Spring. This test consists of the students reading, listening, or looking at different sources provided on the computer related to specific topics. On the first day the students must read, analyze, and take notes over the sources provided. Then, upon returning to the test on day two, the students will be given a writing prompt that they must answer using evidence from the sources from the day before. Students are allowed to use their notes, and the sources will be available as well. The written answer must be typed.
Math Performance Test: March 3rd
The math performance test is a math test that asks the kids to complete several different activities related to the question asked.
The last two assessments will be in late March and late April. I will blog about each of those as we approach the dates.
Animal Museum Open to Parents: March 10th
Have a great week!
