On Tuesday we will be having RIF (Reading is Fundamental), each student will get a free book that they can keep and enjoy. We will start up our guided reading groups again as well as our main basal story for the week. In math the class will start chapter 9 which will focus on using properties of multiplication. They will learn about multiplying three factors, and how to break down a multiplication problem using the distributive property.
We will kick off our Ice Cream competition in math. Students will be challenged to memorize their multiplication facts through 12. For each level they pass, the students will work toward earning an ice cream sundae party on the last day of school. I will be sending home an informational note later this week with details for parents. I will provide the ice cream, cookie, bowls, and spoons. I ask the kids to bring in their favorite topping. The kids always love this challenge, and its a way to celebrate a job well done at the end of the school year.
On Friday we will be heading to the Museum at Prairie Fire. This is our big field trip for the year, and is always a trip that the kids enjoy. Students and adults attending will need to bring a sack lunch and drink. Parents please remember you will need to be to our classroom by 8:30 Friday morning. Our bus will leave at 9:00 and return to TES around 2:00 pm that afternoon.
Our Valentine's Party is right around the corner. Our class will celebrate from 8:30-9:00 on February 14th. I am looking for a volunteer to call parents and organize snacks for the morning. If you would be willing, please send me a note or give me a call.
